so i read chapter three and i actually understood it and enjoyed it! however… the quotes from simmel himself are easier to understand then highmore trying to make sense of it. from what i understand, simmel’s everyday is an accumulation of the microscopic moments that make it up. the book compares it to snapshots of time, which now i also understand why i took pictures of my bathtub...

just watched the first bit of children of men and thought it was fascinating. all these things are going on that we today think of as tragic and these people are carrying on their everday life like nothing is wrong because nothing IS wrong to them… this has BECOME their everyday
